Northshoreoflongisland.com: Northport Harbor [New York] is always alive, even in the dead of winter. And when the temperature dips, folks who work the water flow with nature’s rhythm.

Northport Village Mayor George Doll hasn’t seen much of the lobsters and conchs and whelks he and other Northport fishermen catch in the summer season. Those creatures are lying dormant in the cold water till the weather warms up, he said.

For now “the good old mainstay is shellfish, oysters and clams,” Doll said, and he called this winter’s yield from the Huntington Bay complex “really plentiful.”
