Norwalk Rowers Heading to Youth National Championships

Norwalk River Rowing qualified 5 boats for the US Rowing Youth National Championships at the US Rowing Northeast District Youth Championship Regatta in Lowell, Massachusetts, on May 17-18, 2014. Thirty-five of the northeast’s top rowing clubs had 395 boats entered at the regatta.
Norwalk qualified 14 of its 25 entries for the finals, which were held Sunday afternoon. A medal in a first varsity event brought with it an automatic invitation to the US Rowing Youth National Championships near Sacramento beginning June 13.
At the end of the day Norwalk River had 6 medals, 5 in first varsity events. It earned golds in the men’s youth varsity single, men’s youth varsity pair and men’s youth lightweight 4 plus coxswain. It won silvers in the men’s youth lightweight double and men’s youth second varsity quad and a bronze in the men’s youth varsity quad. All of the medaling boats except the second varsity quad are headed to Sacramento for Nationals.
