Getting There:

Charts: NOAA 12372, 13214

Noank Chart

If approaching Noank from the west, you can pass between RN “22” off Groton Point and buoy BRC “DIR” marking Intrepid Rock. Once past Groton Point, head due north if bound for Palmer Cove and Palmer’s Cove Marina. Note that clearance below the road bridge is 5 feet and water depth is 2 to 4 feet at MLW. Also beware the shoal extending from Esker Point and old pilings to starboard along the point as you approach the bridge.

If bound for Spicer’s Marina, in West Cove, head northeast after passing Groton Point (RN “22”). Keep east of the shoal extending from Esker Point. As you approach West Cove, you will pick up the channel buoys leading to the marina docks. There is a long breakwater in front of Spicer’s that is not shown on older charts.

If bound for Noank Shipyard or Noank Village Boatyard, head for GC “3”, then R “4” (Whale Rock). Turn east and round QG “5” tower off Morgan Point and head north into the Mystic Harbor channel. You’ll see the marina docks and buildings to port along Morgan Point.

If approaching from the east, the safest bet is to stay south of R “2” and Ram Island Reef, then head for GC “1” (an alternate route is the channel between Ram Island and Mason Island). Keep west of GC “3” if bound for Palmer Cove or West Cove. If bound for Mystic and the marinas on the east side of Morgan Point, pass between RN “2” and GC “3” and head for R “4”. Turn east after clearing R “4” and round QG “5” off Morgan Point and enter the channel leading to Mystic Harbor. You’ll see the marina docks and buildings to port.
