Oak Bluffs Shellfish Warden Involved in Physical Altercation

The MV Times reports that on Nov. 3, a deputy shellfish warden from Oak Bluffs, MA, was involved in a physical altercation with an 80-year-old commercial scalloper. The confrontation occurred at Medeiros Cove on Lagoon Pond. The deputy warden was apparently attempting to inspect the shellfisherman’s catch for seed scallops. For his part, the scalloper claimed that the warden was aggressive and profane. The warden reportedly stated that roughly 10% to 15% of the scalloper’s catch was seed. A report was filed with the police.
