Oakcliffe Sailing Tean Fundraiser Scheduled

The Herreshoff Maritime Museum in Bristol, Rhode Island, will host a fundraiser for the Oakcliff All-American Offshore Team (AAOT) before the team departs on July 3 for the 2011 Transatlantic Race.

Cocktails, hor d’oeuvres, and the sounds of local band, the Honky Tonk Knights. Volvo Ocean Race and America’s Cup legend Jerry Kirby will lead a discussion and share his wisdom with the sailors of tomorrow.

Event sponsors include the Herreshoff Maritime Museum, Narragansett Breweries and Newport Vineyards.

Oakcliff AAOT, an extension of the non-profit USMMA Sailing Foundation is committed to providing “high-performance offshore training opportunities for an up and coming generation of American ocean racing leaders.” With help and support from the community, the team will go on to compete aboard the IRC 65 Vanquish in four key 2011 events: the Storm Trysail Club’s 66th Around Block Island Race; the Annapolis to Newport Race; the Transatlantic Race (Newport, R. I. to The Lizard, UK); and the Rolex Fastnet Race.
