Officials Address Access Concerns at Cape Cod Beach
June 19, 2015

Visitors to Mashpee, Massachusetts’ only saltwater beach who can’t manage the stairs over a new barrier dune will get some assistance later this summer, according to an article on CapeCodOnline.com.
Mashpee will install a portable mat or boardwalk at the town-owned stretch of South Cape Beach to provide a level path from the parking lot to the sand. Until this year, visitors could leave their car and walk right to the beach, but a 4-foot-high dune was installed last year to prevent further erosion to the parking lot. Three sets of wooden stairs were installed to allow visitors to traverse the dune, but the elderly, those in wheelchairs or people who otherwise can’t manage the steps are feeling frustrated.
