December 28, 2011
CapeCodOnline: A commercial fisherman from West Barnstable, Massachusetts, who pioneered lobster gear to protect endangered North Atlantic right whales was killed in a 1-car crash Monday [December 26] on Route 495, and his son was critically injured.
Gary Ostrom, 53, was driving a 2003 Ford pickup truck northbound on the highway at around 6:30 a.m. when the truck skidded off the road and rolled over into the median strip, the state police said. Ostrom and his passenger, his 19-year-old son Joshua Ostrom, were both thrown from the truck, the police said. The pickup also hit an unoccupied state police cruiser, which was parked on the southbound side of the highway investigating another crash nearby caused by icy roads.
