Poachers Nabbed in Westport, MA

On Saturday, July 22, 2017, a Massachusetts Environmental Police Patrol Boat Officer was provided information from a local fisherman regarding illegal fishing in the vicinity of Elephant Rock in Westport.

Upon arrival at Elephant Rock, the officer observed a group of individuals engaged in rod and reel fishing. The officer subsequently inspected their catch and found the individuals to be in possession of undersized striped bass, undersized tautog and undersized scup. All of the anglers were fishing without a saltwater fishing license.

The catch was seized, and the individuals were issued civil citations and removed from the area. The fish was not kept on ice which made it unfit for donation.
