Poppa Neutrino Rescued After Raft Sinks on Lake Champlain
November 12, 2010
WCAX.com: Three rafters, 3 dogs, and some say endless danger. About 2 weeks ago we introduced you to Poppa Neutrino—known for building rafts out of scrap wood. He planned to circumnavigate the globe with two other Vermonters in one of his makeshift rafts. On Tuesday their journey began and almost immediately ended in disaster.
Anchored off Thompson’s Point near Charlotte (Vermont) after embarking from Burlington’s waterfront, Tuesday night at around 9:30 their anchor line snapped and waves taller than the boat itself sent Poppa and his crew crashing into a cliff. The rafters managed to climb into A cave on the cliff and called for help. Rescue crews from neighboring towns, the U.S. Coast Guard and a Border Patrol helicopter scoured the bay to find them.
