Popponesset Bay, MA, Residents Sue Oyster Farmer
November 8, 2011
CapeCodOnline: A heated fight over a proposed 1-acre Popponesset Bay shellfish grant has gained the attention of state environmental officials.
And with that attention, Richard Cook Jr.’s grant became the first shellfish farming project in recent state history to undergo the complicated “environmental notification” procedure.
State officials learned about the project in August after 22 residents of affluent Popponesset and Daniels islands appealed to the Department of Environmental Affairs after the Mashpee Conservation Commission approved the project, said DEP spokesman Edmund Coletta.
