Sept. 14, 2010: It appears that Portland’s Ram Island Ledge Lighthouse has been sold at auction to an unidentified bidder for $190,000. The auction, which saw a flurry of activity in the last week, closed at 3:00 p.m., Sept. 14. At 8:58 a.m., a bidder named “redtide” topped the former high bid of $185,000, according to the federal General Services Administration, which handles the sale and disposal of federally held properties. No word yet on who “redtide” is and what he or she plans to do with the property. The new owners must agree to maintain the lighthouse, which will continue to serve as an active aid to navigation.
