EastBayRI.com reports that a request on Nov. 9 by Portsmouth, RI, Police Chief Thomas Lee spurred the Portsmouth Town Council to unanimously approve the creation of a position of a seasonal assistant to the harbormaster, starting in January 2016.

The job will apparently be primarily clerical in nature, entail fewer than 30 hours per week during the boating season and allow the harbormaster to spend more time on the water. The position would pay $15 per hour, with a $6,500 budget for the position.
