Possible Hoax Call Initiates Search on Houstatonic River
August 17, 2012
Stamford Advocate: Rescue crews from several communities searched the Housatonic River for more than an hour Tuesday after a report that a woman may have gone overboard in a boat, officials said.
After the call was received at 1:45 p.m., crews were initially searching Lake Zoar in Monroe. But about 2:20 p.m. the search was moved downriver near Fowler Island in Stratford. Crews had also searched the river near Indian Well State Park in Shelton and found nothing.
Shortly before 2:45 p.m. the search was called off and is believed to be a “possible hoax,” according to emergency radio transmissions.
