Private Mooring Fees Assessed on ACK

Inquirer & Mirror: The Marine Department will assess the owners of private docking slips around the island a new fee next summer to bolster the coffers of the town’s waterways-improvement fund by capturing an untapped source of revenue from boaters who don’t currently pay municipal mooring fees.

The new variable fee on private slips will be imposed at a number of island businesses and clubs, including Madaket Marine and Old North Wharf, as well as the Nantucket Yacht Club and the Great Harbor Yacht Club. The Nantucket Boat Basin, however, will be exempt from the new fee—for now—due to the large number of slips it owns and the transient nature of its customers, harbormaster Dave Fronzuto said.
