Program to Focus on Block Island Sea Level Rise
October 5, 2011
Block Island Times: The effects of changing weather patterns and the projected rise in the sea level on Block Island will be the focus of a program on climate change Saturday, October 8, at 4 p.m. at Smuggler’s Cove on Ocean Avenue.
Block Island’s town planner Jane Weidman began thinking about organizing an on-island information session after she attended a planning program on the mainland last fall. That program covered impacts of sea level on Rhode Island. Communities have to start planning for it, Weidman said: “I think Block Island is vulnerable and uniquely susceptible.”
Two Rhode Island scientists, Janet Freedman and Pam Rubinoff, will present on the topic.
