Pygmy Whale Strands in Portsmouth, RI

EastBayRI.com: A young whale was found stranded on Island Park Beach Saturday afternoon [Dec. 13], but ultimately had to be euthanized by a rescue team from Mystic Aquarium.
According to Dale Wolbrink, the aquarium’s director of public relations, the Mystic Aquarium’s Animal Rescue Team responded to the beach for a stranding call at about 1:30 p.m. Saturday. The whale was identified as a juvenile female pygmy sperm whale (Kogia breviceps), according to Ms. Wolbrink.
