SouthCoast Today reports that the recreational settlement fund from the Bouchard oil spill in Buzzards Bay, MA, is paying for a massive transfer of quahogs from the Taunton River to New Bedford, Westport, Mattapoisett and Gosnold. The aforementioned municipalities will each receive 830 bushels of quahogs in each of the next 4 years. The exception is Gosnold, where the figure is smaller.

In the case of New Bedford, the clams will be taken to a 2-acre site just outside the hurricane barrier. The clams are intended to be harvested by recreational clammers.
