Report from the Field: ‘Toggin’ in Buzzards Bay

Enjoying a great fall day on Buzzards Bay, Massachusetts, with a friend who shall remain nameless because he is playing “hookey” from work (pun intended).

Conditions are awesome, with light north wind and bright sunshine. Air temps in the 50s. Best of all the tautog are here in abundance. After locating a small rock pile in 26′ of water and anchoring right over the high spot, we started catching fish.

First fish was this chunky 6-pounder, but we’ve had to weed through a lot of shorts to catch a keeper. We’ll take it, though. Not too many of these days left in the season, so you gotta grab ’em when you can. More later on this fishery, including a video later this week.

Fish tacos tonight, chowda later!
