RI Grants to Fund Pump-Out Stations, Boats
April 22, 2014
Jamestown Press: The state of Rhode Island is accepting applications from marinas, yacht clubs and municipalities to construct, replace, retrofit and maintain marine pump-out boats and land-based facilities.
Boaters have been prohibited from discharging sewage into Rhode Island waters since 1998, when the state became the first in the country to receive no-discharge designation from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Boat sewage can degrade water quality by introducing bacteria, pathogens and chemicals that are harmful to humans and marine life.
