RI Lecture Series to Focus on Environmental Issues

The International School of Yacht Restoration (IYRS) of Newport and Bristol, Rhode Island, and the Rhode Island Marine Trades Association will hold a weekly series of lectures through November focusing on the environmental issues facing sailors and the marine world.

November 1, 7:30 p.m.: Sailors for the Sea

  • Dan Pingaro, Chief Executive Officer of Sailors for the Sea will talk about programs to educate and engage the boating community in the worldwide protection of the oceans. Sailors for the Sea has partnered with the 34th America’s Cup where they will provide their expertise in linking sailing with the environment. Read More

November 15, 7:30 p.m.: The Rozalia Project

  • Rachael Miller, Executive Director of The Rozalia Project will talk about the problem of marine debris in an exciting and interactive audience challenge, and what we, as sailors, can do about this problem. Read More

November 29, 7:30 p.m.: “Green” Yachting: Eco-consciousness in Today’s Marine Industry

  • Daniela T. H. Abbott, P.E., Naval Architect & Marine Engineer at Sparkman & Stephens will present environmental challenges yacht designers, builders and owners face. Read More
