The Cape Cod Times reports that the Cape Cod Canal was closed to traffic for 45 minutes on Saturday morning, May 9, after a North Atlantic right whale was seen heading east through the manmade waterway. Apparently, a pedestrian reported the right whale at 6:45 a.m. under the Sagamore Bridge, prompting the Army Corps of Engineers to investigate. The boat crew identified the whale as a right whale, and followed its progress through the Canal. The whale left the canal at 8:13 a.m.
