Sailboat Grounds on Martha’s Vineyard, Owner Arrested

The Martha’s Vineyard Times reports on the curious case of David Hawkins, whose 28’ sailboat, Puff, washed ashore in West Tisbury in late fall.

Hawkins, who has a long history if issues involving illegal docking and anchoring, refusal to pay dockage fees, and disorderly conduct in and around the Cape and Islands, was arrested by Tisbury Police on a warrant after he failed to appear in district court.

The article goes on to describe the various run-ins Hawkins has had over the years with Vineyard and Cape Cod harbormasters, which has resulted in his banishment from certain harbors. Many describe Hawkins as an odd fellow who appears to know little about sailing or navigation, and poses a risk to himself and others.
