Coast-Guard-Rescue

The Coast Guard reports that 2 crews from Air Station Cape Cod rescued a Ukrainian sailor Monday [Nov. 2] 130 miles off Cape Cod.

A 28-year-old male aboard the sailing vessel Alice Oldendorff contacted the 1st Coast Guard District Command Center to request a medical evacuation after reporting stomach pains. After a conference call with a flight surgeon, the vessel’s operator and the search-and-rescue mission coordinator, the Coast Guard recommended a medevac within 12 hours. The operator of the Alice Oldendorff was told to change course and head toward Cape Cod as quickly as possible.

Meanwhile, Coast Guard crews onboard a Casa HC-144a Ocean Sentry provided communication cover while a team aboard an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter hoisted the man and flew him to Cape Cod Hospital for treatment, according to the statement.
