Salem Swim Nets $3K for Food Pantry

The Salem News reports on the annual News Year’s Day “Freeze Your Tush Off” swim, which raised $3,000 for a local food pantry. About 100 people participated in the event at Dead Horse Beach in Salem, where the water temperature was hovering around 38 degrees. There’s a video of the event as well, if you can bear to watch. If there were ever a day to take a January dip into the Atlantic Ocean, Saturday was it.

The sun and unusually mild temperatures made the 38-degree water a little more bearable for the 50 or so people who participated Saturday in the second annual Freeze Your Tush Off charity event held at Dead Horse Beach in Salem.

“It was great, the weather was certainly very much on our side,” said Becky Christie, the event’s organizer. The water “really wasn’t bad at all. Some people went in two, three times and were really reveling in it. Some people were swimming around.
