Salisbury, MA, Harbormaster Ray Pike Retires
June 30, 2020
Longtime Salisbury, MA, harbormaster Ray Pike, 74, has retired after holding the position for the last 16 years.
According to the Newburyport News, Pike is stepping down so that he could spend more time with his family.
Pike’s current assistant, Willem van de Stadt, will serve as acting harbormaster. The search for a permanent successor will begin after the summer season and into the winter.
During his tenure, Pike established a “no wake” zone at the “The Toothpick,” the iconic marker near the Merrimack River’s mouth. The move has improved safety in what had been a very hazardous part of the river.
