Salmon Brook Dam in Washburn, ME, Removed
April 16, 2014
The Town of Washburn, Maine, and the State of Maine have completed the removal of the aging Salmon Brook Dam on Salmon Brook, a large tributary to the Aroostook River.
The project reconnects the lower Salmon Brook and Aroostook River system to the upper Salmon Brook watershed, and opens up 30 square miles of watershed upstream of the former dam.
Complete removal eliminates future maintenance issues and provides the best fish passage and the best chance for full ecological restoration.
