Sea Tow Central CT Raises Sunken Sportfisherman
February 21, 2013
The Nor’easter of February 8-9 kept Sea Tow Central Connecticut’s Tom Kehlenbach and crew busy with a large sportfisherman that sank at the dock.
Here’s what happened, and how they dealt with it:
“Heavy snow weighed down the bow of the boat and the bilge pump could not push water as the battery started to die,” reports Kehlenbach. “As the pump lost power, water started to back-flow into the boat. Before long the boat sank.”
“To raise the boat we used a 3-man hazmat-certified dive team with hazmat dry suits and ocean technology underwater comms. The team rigged and inflated 24,000 pounds of Subalve airbags to get the boat to surface. Then we used three 3″ dewatering pumps, pumping 45,000 gph combined to pump out the water.”
