Stranded Scallops Rescued on Nantucket

Nantucket Inquirer & Mirror: Last weekend’s strong winds and driving rain downed tree limbs and branches, flooded low-lying areas and briefly knocked out power in some areas.

They also forced dozens of bushels of adult and immature scallops ashore off Fulling Mill Road and Hulbert Avenue, near the UMass-Boston field station and in Wauwinet.

Employees of the Nantucket Marine Department and volunteers worked quickly to retrieve the succulent shellfish and return them to Nantucket Harbor, where they could either be harvested by fishermen or left to mature another season for possible harvest next year.
