Suspected RI Oyster Poachers Charged

South County Independent: Two South County [Rhode Island] men have been charged in connection with alleged oyster thefts that occurred in Point Judith Pond on Oct. 16, which culminated in a boat chase, an attempted parking lot run-over, and an ensuing “throat jab” to one of the alleged thieves by the owner of the oyster farm.
The state Department of Environmental Management Law Enforcement Division charged Ronald A. Miller, 58, 146 Bedford Drive, Green Hill, with attempted larceny under $1,500; damaging, disturbing, interfering with an aquaculture site; and prohibited activities by the public in an aquaculture site for allegedly tampering with an oyster aquaculture operation owned by David K. Roebuck. Peter A. Santilli, 48, 193 Arcadia Road, Hope Valley, is charged with aiding and abetting Miller on each of the three charges.
