The Mystic River Historical Society is presenting a talk by Captain Carl Lahti, the Groton, CT, Submarine Base Commanding Officer. The talk will highlight the history of the base, which was established after the Civil War.

Although the base has always been in Groton, it was originally called the New London Navy Yard and Coaling Station. Its role shifted in 1916 when it was designated the country’s first submarine base. Captain Lahti will highlight the growth of the base through the two World Wars and the Cold War. Finally, he will highlight what the base has become today.

The program is free for Society members and a suggested donation of $5 from non-members is always greatly appreciated. Refreshments will be served.

Time: Wednesday, January 28 at 7:30 p.m.
