The Massachusetts Renewable Energy Collaborative has received $209,952 from the MA Seaport Advisory Council to create a test site on the Cape Cod Canal for tidal-power-generating equipment.

The proposed site would be adjacent to the Buzzards Bay Railroad Bridge. A crane would be used to lower the test turbines from the side of the canal to a set of fixed pilings. The MREC estimates that the canal currents could power a turbine with the force of a 400 mph wind.
