Tiverton, RI, Rescue Boat Honors Firefighter

EastBayRI: In memory of a firefighter who died in the line of duty, Tiverton took delivery of a fire rescue boat at its council meeting Monday night.

The boat was given to the town by the Gerald Leduc Foundation in ceremonies honoring Tiverton Fire Fighter Lieutenant Gerald “Gerry” Leduc, who lost his life on August 3, 2008, during a dive in Stafford Pond while searching for a boater who had gone overboard in a fishing accident.

Lt. Leduc’s death was believed at the time to be the first line of duty death the Tiverton Fire Department had ever had.
