Fans of cycling and lighthouses get a chance to combine their passions this Sunday during Connecticut’s Shoreline Lighthouse Bicycle Tour.

During the event, which is part of New London’s Lighthouse Heritage Weekend, cyclists can ride from lighthouse to lighthouse, visiting some historic beacons that are rarely seen or open to the public.

The free tour begins Sunday, July 3, at 11 .m. at Fort Trumbull State Park. Participants will visit the New London Harbor Light, which was recently acquired by the New London Maritime Society and features views of nearby New London Ledge Light.

From there the tours heads to the U.S. Custom House Museum for refreshments before heading over the Gold Star Bridge to Groton to visit the Avery Point Light.

Other sites along the way include Noank Lighthouse and Stonington Harbor Light. The tour ends at Mystic Seaport, whose Sentinels of the Seas lighthouse exhibit will be open until 8 p.m.
