TrawlerFest Comes to Warwick, RI
July 16, 2010
The New England Boating team was in Warwick, Rhode Island, on Thursday, July 15, and paid a visit to TrawlerFest, which is being held through Saturday, July 17, at Brewer Greenwich Bay Marina.
2010 marks the 15th anniversary of TrawlerFest, which is produced by PassageMaker Magazine, and the event is still going strong. On hand at the Warwick venue were trawlers from various manufacturers, including Nordhavn, Ranger Tug, Island Pilot, Selene, Kadey Krogen, Ocean Alexander, Outer Reef, Nord Star and Nordic Tug. We also sat in on one of the morning seminars dedicated to high-seas safety gear, held by Capt. Henry Marx, and found it very informative—not to mention entertaining. Many more how-to and hands-on seminars are held throughout the 3-day event.
TrawlerFest is also a great place to see some neat products for cruising, and to form bonds and share stories with other like-minded boaters who either own trawlers or are interested in buying one. We sensed a definite vibe of laidback camaraderie among both attendees and exhibitors at the event, and it was only the first day. We expect the momentum will build today and especially tomorrow, when the weekend arrives.
Seminars and events scheduled for Saturday include:
- Navigation Equipment
- Cruising the Chesapeake
- Innovation in Yacht Design
- Close-Quarters Maneuvering
- Dinghy Dynamics
- Understanding Your Engine
- Lifecraft Inflation and Deployment
- Damage Control Workshop
- Know Your Knots
