Tribe Upset Maine Pulled Out of Elver Deal

Passamaquoddy Chief Joseph Socobasin said last week the tribe was disappointed that the Maine Department of Marine Resources withdrew its support for a tentative agreement with them over the state’s elver fishery because of legal concerns, according to an article in the Bangor Daily News.
Patrick Keliher, commissioner of the Department of Marine Resources, last week told members of the state legislature’s marine resources committee that the department was backing off its support of the proposal because of legal concerns raised by the Maine Office of the Attorney General.
