Coast Guard crews medically evacuated a mariner aboard a tugboat near New London, Connecticut, on May 22.

At approximately 8:00 a.m., watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound command center received a call from the tugboat Jay Michael, reporting a 55-year-old crewmember aboard experiencing severe kidney pain approximately 2 miles south of New London.

A flight surgeon recommended a medical evacuation within 24 hours. Sector Long Island Sound launched a Coast Guard Station New London boat crew aboard a 45’ Response Boat-Medium, who arrived on scene at 8:33 a.m. The crew conducted the medical evacuation and transferred the mariner to a local Emergency Medical Service after returning to the Coast Guard station.
