Tying the Slim Beauty Knot

The Slim Beauty is a great knot for connecting heavy monofilament or fluorocarbon leader to braided main line. It also forms a streamlined connection that passes easily through the rod guides, making it ideal for a wind-on leader system. Here’s how to tie it!

Step 1 (first 2 photos below):

Tie a double overhand knot in the leader and partially tighten to create a figure 8 in the leader.

Step 2:

Pass the tag end of the braided line into the first loop of the figure 8 and out the other.

Step 3:

Wrap the tag end 7 times around the leader, working away from the double-overhand knot.

Step 4:

Now wrap the line 7 times over the first series of wraps, working toward the double-overhand knot.

Step 5:

Pass the tag end of the braided line through the loop just above the double overhand knot.

Step 6:

Lubricate and tighten the double-overhand knot in the leader.

Step 7:

Tighten the wraps in the braided line by pulling gently on the tag and standing ends then snug the wraps against the double-overhand knot.

Step 8:

Pull firmly on the braided line and leader to fully tighten the connection.

Step 9:

Trim the tag ends of leader and main line.
