The Portland Press Herald reports that residents in Maine’s Vassalboro and the China Lake area are concerned that a state order regulating water release from China Lake, including the proposed removal of Masse Dam on Mill Pond, will reduce water levels, lower property values and affect wildlife.

The Alewife Restoration Initiative, a partnership of 6 environmental and government agencies, wants to make the lake more accessible to alewives, which spawn in the lake.
