Boasting some 900 slips and top-notch facilities spread across 50 acres of prime coastal real estate, Brewer Pilots Point is easily the largest marina in the boating hub known as Westbrook, Connecticut, just west of the Connecticut River mouth. Given its size and scope, you might think that the facility would lack the kind of personal touch found at smaller, more intimate marinas, but that’s not the case.

Led by longtime boater and competitive sailor Rives Potts, the staff at Pilots Point works hard to put their customers at ease and help them have more fun on the water, which is what boating should be about. Case in point is the marina’s new-customer party, held each May. The event gives newcomers an opportunity to meet some of the other marina patrons and the Pilots Point staff, as well as familiarize themselves with a few of the marina’s ground rules.

Also held in May is the annual Spring Picnic and Vendor Show—a big cookout for all of the marina’s customers. It features lots of food and kids’ activities, and gives folks a chance to check out the many products and services offered by the various Pilots Point vendors and local marine-related businesses.
As you’ll see in the accompanying video, shot at the 2012 New Customer Party and Spring Picnic, both events are well attended, and help showcase what the Pilots Point experience is all about.
