Volunteers Needed for Block Island Beach Restoration

Block Island Times: Hurricane Sandy devastated the dunes on Crescent Beach from Surf Beach to Mansion Beach [on Block Island] and a project is now underway to restore them before the 2013 tourism season.
According to the Woods Hole Grant and Cape Cod Cooperative Extension’s “Coastal Dune Protection and Restoration” guidelines, the most effective and sustainable method to restore dunes is to install snow fencing to capture sand, which rebuilds the dunes. The installation of the snow fencing is planned as a community volunteer work day for Saturday, March 30.
