West River Water Festival This Weekend
July 15, 2011
The West River Water Festival will be held this Saturday in New Haven, Connecticut, at West River Memorial Park. The A festival is an educational, interactive, and fun event designed to increase awareness, understanding, and appreciation of local water resources and issues.
Water celebrations typically consist of structured learning stations and exhibits where students and/or community members actively engage in hands-on water-related activities and investigations.
Some water celebration events also include service-oriented activities such as stream cleanup or storm drain stenciling. The delivery mechanism promotes an understanding of water related topics including: the hydrologic cycle, historic use of water, point/non-point source pollution, water quality indicator species, impact of pollution on aquatic wildlife, stream formation and flow, landfill water issues, groundwater, surface water, chemistry of water, water availability, and variety of uses.
