Whales Indicate High Plankton Levels in Cape Cod Bay

An unusually high number of sei and right whales in Cape Cod Bay could be an indicator that plankton levels are extremely high, according to the Cape Cod Times.

On a recent observation flight, researchers counted 40 sei whales, which enter the bay only when plankton levels are high. Also spotted was a bowhead whale, an Arctic species that rarely travels this far south.
