Whaling Captain’s Letters Reveal Personal Side

Cape Cod Times: After a long career as the captain of several whaling ships, Seth Pinkham left his Nantucket home for one final voyage in 1840. He never returned from that trip, but some of his letters and journal entries did.

In May, about 400 pages of Pinkham’s writings, including letters to family members and personal notes, were purchased at auction by the Nantucket Historical Association for $11,070.
