Whaling Museum Unveils Expansion Plans

With an “unprecedented” $1.8 million gift, the New Bedford Whaling Museum in Massachusetts announced plans for a new building on its Johnny Cake Hill Campus while simultaneously expanding educational programs, according to an article on SouthCoastToday.com.
The four-year grant — the largest single gift in the museum’s history — from longtime benefactors Dr. Irwin and Joan Jacobs will be administered by the Community Foundation of Southeastern Massachusetts. The grant was given with the recommendation that it be used to construct a new education center and research library in the vacant lot between the museum and Sundial Building on Water Street.
