Where the Mountains Meet the Sea
December 7, 2011
The term becomes most literal in this photo by Maine writer and photographer Steve Cartwright. Shown is Harbor Park in Camden, Maine, early Thanksgiving morning, with snowy Mount Battie in background.
The reported 14’ astronomically high tide (average tide in Camden is 9-10’) flooded the area around the park, although no major damage occurred.
“Global climate change appears to be more real than some people wish to acknowledge,” says Cartwright. “I’ve lived here for decades and have never seen a tide this high. And the water was calm, with no storm surge.”
