Wildfowl Numbers Down in CT
January 19, 2012

New Haven Register: The numbers of puddle ducks and especially scaup, or bluebills, were down in this year’s state midwinter waterfowl survey. But the fact that it was relatively warm and inland lakes weren’t frozen may have dispersed birds more than usual, according to the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.
This year’s survey spotted far fewer ducks than last year—15,893 as opposed to 22,926 in 2011, said Min Huang, leader of the DEEP’s Migratory Game Bird Program.
