Windward Power Systems Receives Small-Business Award

Nathan and Jim Tynan of Windward Power Systems of West Wareham, Massachusetts, have received the U.S. Small Business Administration’s 2011 Massachusetts Micro-Enterprise Award.

The Micro-Enterprise Award is presented annually to an individual who founded, owns and operates a business (with at least a 3-year track record) with 5 or fewer employees who received assistance through SBA loan programs or as a client of the SBA technical service providers.

This nominations were evaluated using the following criteria:

  1. Increase in sales or unit volume.
  2. Number of employees.
  3. SBA assistance.
  4. Response to Adversity.
  5. Contributions to aid community-oriented projects.

Laurie Driscoll of Southeastern Economic Development Corporation (Seed Corp) nominated the Tynans for the award.

Founded in 2006 by Jim and his son Nathan, Windward Power (a New England Boating advertiser) is a marine diesel engines sales, service and parts facility that covers all of New England. They are an authorized dealer for Caterpillar, Westerbeke and Northern Lights. Windward has provided parts and service from St. Maarten to Kodiak, AK to Kirkenes, Norway to Kaohsiung, Taiwan and most recently Guam. The company also received Seed Corp’s “Startup Business of the Year Award” in 2009.

The Tynans will be honored along with other 2011 small-business award-winners at an awards luncheon at the Andover Wyndam Hotel on May 26.
