Woman Loses Arm in Boston Boating Accident

Maine Boater Arrested for BUI

The Boston Globe reports that a 19-year-old woman lost her arm in a boating accident at approximately 7:40 on Saturday evening, May 30. The operator of the vessel, Benjamin Urbelis, 33, was arrested for operating under the influence, according to authorities.

According to the Globe article, 13 people were onboard the 29’ recreational vessel near Spectacle Island at the time of the incident. The victim apparently fell overboard and was trying to get back onboard when her arm was amputated at the shoulder by the boat’s propeller.

The Coast Guard was first on the scene in the Boston Harbor, followed by the Boston Fire Department.
