Workers Help Fish Bypass CT Dam As of Friday afternoon, there were 78 new scaly residents of the upper Shetucket River, swimming against the freshwater currents in search of a place to spawn.

The 78 fish—69 American shad, 6 gizzard shad, 2 bass and 1 salmon—had already journeyed through Long Island Sound, then 16 miles north on the Thames River and into the fish lift at Greeneville Dam on the Shetucket. But they needed the help of Eric Dungan and others in the Norwich Utilities crew to get farther upstream.
