Wreck of Missing MA Fishing Boat Located

Coast Guard Sector Boston confirmed the discovery of the submerged wreckage of the 45’ Gloucester-based fishing vessel Foxy Lady II, on Friday, January 11, at approximately 11:00 a.m. The boat and its 2 crewmembers had been missing since December 17, 2012.

Earlier in the week, Massachusetts Marine Environmental Police received multiple reports of fishing vessels becoming entangled on an underwater obstruction while trawling in areas between Provincetown and Cape Ann. Coast Guard Sector Boston investigators, along with assistance and equipment from Massachusetts Marine Environmental Police, began to assess the seabed. With the use of an underwater camera, the vessel was located and confirmed to be the Foxy Lady II.

Coast Guard Sector Boston investigators are currently working closely with state and local agencies to further investigate the area and will thoroughly assess the findings as a part of the incident investigation.

On December 17, 2012, the Foxy Lady II and its 2 crewmembers were reported overdue. After a multi-day, multi-agency effort by aircraft, cutters, and rescue lifeboats failed to locate the vessel or crew, the Coast Guard’s active search and rescue operation was suspended. The location of the vessel’s wreckage is within the area searched in December.
